Glandular fever
Glandular fever is a viral disease that presents with swollen glands, sore and painful throat, malaise and feverishness. It is often diagnosed by a Gp with a simple blood test however there is a very limited approach to treatment in western medicine. Patients are usually just advised to rest as much as possible and take pain and inflammation medication if necessary.
In Chinese medicine Glandular fever is a condition of heat-toxicity and dryness.
The treatment involves strongly clearing heat/toxicity and replenishing fluid to the lungs. This is done with particular herbs which are cold, bitter and sweet. Specific acupuncture points are used that eliminate heat and inflammation in the throat/lung. This helps to eliminate the virus out of the system. Once this is achieved it is then important to supplement the body’s energy & lift the immune system.
