Headache and Migraine

Headaches and migraines can be the result of stress, emotions(anger, excessive worry), hormones, diet & lifestyle factors, depletion of blood following childbirth, shock & trauma and sinus infections.

Acupuncture can be used to relieve pain by invigorating blood flow through the head and neck, as well as reducing stress levels.

Recent research suggests that “acupuncture is as effective as drug therapy in the treatment of migraine”(“Efficacy of acupuncture for the prophylaxis migraine: a multi-centre randomised controlled trial”, Diener, Hans-Christoph, et al, The Lancet Neurology Online, 2006).

As well as relieving the acute symptom of pain it is important to address any underlying imbalances in Yin-Yang, Blood/fluids and organ function. Ongoing sessions to correct any of these imbalances is advised for more long term prevention.  It is generally recommended that migraine sufferers avoid stimulants such as caffeine and tobacco and avoid alcohol.

Acupuncture is ideal for those who wish to manage their pain naturally.
