Menopause
Menopause arrives for most women between the ages of 45 and 55 when oestrogen levels naturally start to deplete.
In Chinese medicine this relates to the depletion of blood and fluids, causing symptoms of dryness and heat. Symptoms can range from being mild to unbearable involving hot flushes, sweats, insomnia, irritability, agitation and dryness of the mouth.
Treatment involves the use of Chinese herbs affecting the liver & kidneys that nourish the blood-fluids and reduce internal heat. Specific acupuncture points are used to clear heat, calm the mind and improve the sleep.
It is advised that warming and drying foods and drinks such as caffeine, alcohol and spicy foods are avoided. A diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, soy protein and plenty of water is beneficial.
Chinese medicine is ideal for those women who wish to manage their menopause naturally or come off HRT.
