Neck and shoulder pain
Neck and shoulder pain is a very common and irritating complaint, usually resulting from stress, overwork, trauma(eg whiplash) as well as degeneration.
In Chinese medicine neck and shoulder pain is a result of obstruction of the moving energy(Qi) and blood through the neck and shoulders.
Acupuncture can help to reduce pain and spasm by re-establishing this flow of Qi and blood. Acute neck sprains are generally self-limiting and acupuncture can assist in quickly relieving the symptoms of pain and tightness. Chronic conditions may require more ongoing management with a thorough review of any underlying structural damage.
In Chinese medicine stress is a common cause of chronic pain and tension in the body and is related to obstruction of the moving energy(Qi) of the liver. For chronic cases of neck and shoulder pain aggravated by stress, specific acupuncture points are used to promote the moving energy(Qi) of the liver to calm the mind and relax the muscles and tendons.
Acupuncture is ideal for those who wish to manage their pain naturally and not rely on pain or anti-inflammatory medications.
