ROSACEA
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin with episodes of intense redness and flushing of the face, especially the cheeks. Triggers include stress and emotional stimulation, alcohol and heat(eg sunlight).
In Chinese medicine rosacea is caused by a build up of heat in the blood and organs. Treatment is aimed at eliminating internal heat, reducing inflammation levels and managing stress. This is achieved through a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Diet and lifestyle factors often lead to inflammation through the accumulation of heat in the stomach and liver. Alcohol, smoking, spicy foods, caffeine, dehydration and prolonged stress should be minimised where possible.
