WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
Weight management is a complex issue requiring analysis of an individuals genetic predisposition, current physical condition, hormonal issues, diet habits, digestive issues and response to stress. There is no quick fix that is healthy long term. The media constantly bombard us with new diets to shed kilos and exercise regimes to the point that there is general confusion and mis-information.
In Chinese medicine every individual is different. We take into account all the above factors to work out what is out of balance and why a person isn't achieving their weight goals.
Sometimes a person may not be eating the right way for their constitution. Raw food diets are not for everyone, and in someone with digestive weakness they can actually do more harm than good. Digestive problems such as bloating, irritable bowel and intolerances all cause a general disruption to the smooth flow of digestion and metabolism. Chronic stress causes stagnation and stubborn weight gain around the middle that can be hard to shift. Poor time management leads us to making less than ideal food choices. These are all very common scenarios that are seen in clinic.
Once core issues are addressed a treatment plan involving acupuncture, herbal medicine and diet therapy can assist in re-balancing the system.
Acupuncture is showing promise in the fight against obesity by "reducing the appetite, enhancing gastrointestinal function, increasing the metabolic rate and improving emotional well-being"(Cabyoglu & others, Int J Neuroscience, 2006).
With a proper weight strategy plan that feels manageable and achievable, weight loss is a natural result rather than a forced outcome.
